What
is the expected life of
UPS battery?
Most
APC battery in
single-phase UPS should
last 3 to 6 years.
Here are some
guidelines to ensure
optimal life expectancy:
1. Keep your UPS in
a cool, dry location
with plenty of
ventilation. Ideally,
the temperature where
you UPS is kept should
not exceed 24°C.
2. The optimum operating
temperature for a
lead-acid battery is
24°C. Elevated
temperature reduces
longevity. Every 15°C
rise in temperature will
cut the battery life in
half.
3. Perform
runtime calibrations on
your UPS only once or
twice a year.
Calibrations can
decrease the life
expectancy of your
battery significantly.
4. Do not store
battery for extended
period of time. New
battery can be stored
for 6 to 12 months from
date of purchase.
After this period, the
battery should be use
or it will lose a great
deal of its charge.
5. Try not to exceed
80 percent of a UPS's
rated capacity due to
the reduction in
runtime. In the event of
power failure, a UPS
loaded to full capacity
will drain and discharge
its battery quickly, in
turn lessening the life
expectancy.
